Charles Gwathemy

January 1, 1977 | Video Lecturer:

Charles Gwathemy describes the intentions and desires behind his architectural projects. He talks about his relationship with the “New York Five,” their differences, and the difference between reality and how they are portrayed in the media. While presenting six completed projects, Gwathemy explains his methology, and how he deals with construction and client problems. The last clip is not part of Charles Gwathemy’s lecture. Three men debate ways to expand low-cost housing. Some maintain that the problem is the costly inefficiency of contemporary construction, which could be relieved by streamlined, component techniques.
