Eugenia Butler initiates a conversation between artist Rick Lowe and architect Samuel Mockbee in order to compare their practices and values within their similar yet different disciplines. The conversation revolves around the difference between art and architecture. The question is raised regarding the definition of architecture and whether it is possible to be an architect without building a building. There is an agreement between both parties that the artist or architect has a responsibility to address social and ethical problems. Mockbee notes the importance of learning, and how it can be defined through the willingness of a person to open up and be honest, and to suspend abstract opinions.
